Hacker Blackmailed 350 Women To Strip On Webcam

Karen “Gary” Kazaryan, a 27 year old man from Glendale,California, is accused of hacking into several Facebook,Skype and email accounts of different women.He was arrested on federal computer hacking charges.He also forced these women in showing themselves naked on the internet.
Once the hacker gained control of the victims accounts,he changed the password,thus, preventing the legitimate users from accessing their accounts. He then searched the emails account for naked or semi naked pictures,as well as files and important information like passwords and friends names.After doing so,he posed himself online as women and fooled the 'friends' in removing their clothes so that he can watch them, or asked them to take pictures of themselves and send it to him.When the victims realized that they were not talking to their so called friend,he would blackmailed them using the photos he already have possession of by making them stripped live for him on camera.
Kazaryan contacted the victims at several occasion asking them to expose their breast on Skype.When they did not comply to his demands,he posted the nude pictures on their respective Facebook pages.The authorities found around 3000 nude and semi-nude pictures on the hackers computer,some taken from their online accounts and other taken by the hacker himself on Skype.Investigators estimated that the hacker victimized more than 350 women but they have not yet identified all the victims.If the hacker is convicted on all the counts,he may face a maximum penalty of 105 years in prison.

WhatsApp Violates Canadian And Dutch Data and Privacy Laws

According to the Canadian and Dutch data protection authorities, the world wide popular cross platform mobile messenger WhatsApp application is said to be violating the international privacy laws.This is because the application requires the users to provide their whole contact list to the service.This was announced today by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada and the Dutch Data Protection Authority which they called as a "collaborative investigation into the handling of personal information" .WhatsApp is known to be a free service which allow users to send text messages while connecting on the internet.More than one billion messages are sent by the users everyday.
Jacob Johnstamm,the chairman of the Dutch Data Protection Authority said that:
"The investigation revealed that users of WhatsApp -- apart from iPhone users who have iOS 6 software -- do not have a choice to use the app without granting access to their entire address book. The address book contains phone numbers of both users and non-users,"
WhatsApp uses the contact list of each user to identify whether these numbers are using the application,but instead of deleting the non-users number,WhatsApp keeps the number in an unreadable form.This contravene both the Canadian and Dutch privacy law, which states that personal data can be kept only as long as it is needed for the fulfullment of certain services.
Jacob Johnstamm added: "Both users and non-users should have control over their personal data and users must be able to freely decide what contact details they wish to share with WhatsApp,"

An Indian hacker going by the name of Death Burner has defaced 14 websites to celebrate and wish other Indian hackers happy Republic Day.With an Indian flag in the middle of the defaced page,he added some wordings which goes as follows:

Sony Fined £250,000 After April 2011 Hack

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe was fined £250,000 by the Information Commissioner's Office in the U.K after a breach of the Data Protection Act.In April 2011,Sony PlayStation Network Platform was hacked and user's credentials were leaked.These consisted of full names,email addresses,account passwords,addresses and date of birth.An investigation by the ICO found that this breached could have been prevented if the software used were up-to-date.
David Smith, deputy commissioner and director of data protection, said: "If you are responsible for so many payment card details and log-in details, then keeping that personal data secure has to be your priority. In this case that just didn't happen, and when the database was targeted--albeit in a determined criminal attack--the security measures in place were simply not good enough,"

British Anonymous Members Jailed

Christopher Weatherhead, a 22 year old British,using the nickname "Nerdo" was sentenced for 18 months by the Southwark Crown Court.Another member,Ashley Rhodes who is 28 was sent to jail for seven months.Peter Gibson who is 24 was given six months and a last person,who is 18 is waiting to be sentenced.They are all accused of using the distributed-denial-of-service (DDoS) against PayPal in an operation called "Operation Payback". This campaign by Anonymous was launched against anti-piracy sites,music labels and movie studios but later on moved towards Paypal as they had refused to allow donation to Wikileaks.The hackers has been using a tool called Low Orbit Ion Cannon (LOIC).
Even though Weatherhead claimed that he was only looking on while others lauched the attack,the court convicted him of one count of conspiracy. The three others pleaded guilty to the charged.

Student Expelled From College After Discovering Vulnerability In System

A Canadian computer science student was expelled from his college after he identified a security holw in a software which the college was using.Ahmed Al-Khabaz, who is 20year old who studied at Montreal’s Dawson College was developing a mobile application to allow other students to access their college account came across the hole along with his colleague.Described as “sloppy coding” in the Omnivox software,it allowed anyone who uses a computer to get access to personal credentials of any student in the system such as social security number,address,phone numbers,etc..in brief,all information of the student.
Ahmed told NationalPost,"I saw a flaw which left the personal information of thousands of students, including myself, vulnerable," he also added, "I felt I had a moral duty to bring it to the attention of the college and help to fix it, which I did. I could have easily hidden my identity behind a proxy. I chose not to because I didn’t think I was doing anything wrong.”
After doing so,he and his colleague was congratulated by the developers of the software and were told that this issue will be fixed.Ahmed later run a scan using Acunetix vulnerability scanning software to see whether there has been any positive progress but within some times,he received a call at his parents home,it was Edouard Taza,the president of the software developing company.
"He said that this was the second time they had seen me in their logs, and what I was doing was a cyber attack. I apologized, repeatedly, and explained that I was one of the people who discovered the vulnerability earlier that week and was just testing to make sure it was fixed. He told me that I could go to jail for six to twelve months for what I had just done and if I didn’t agree to meet with him and sign a non-disclosure agreement he was going to call the RCMP and have me arrested. So I signed the agreement.”
Mr Taza said that he did mentioned about police and legal issues,but denied about making any threats and told Ahmed that he misunderstood his comments.
The college administration saw everything from a different point of view and proceeded in expelling Mr. Al-Khabaz.After a meeting with the college's administration,professors in the computer science department were asked to vote for or against the expel of Ahmed,in which fourteen of the fifteen professors voted for.Ahmed appealed for the expulsion as he said he never had any opportunity to explain but the appeal was denied.
“I was acing all of my classes, but now I have zeros across the board. I can’t get into any other college because of these grades, and my permanent record shows that I was expelled for unprofessional conduct. I really want this degree, and now I won’t be able to get it. My academic career is completely ruined. In the wrong hands, this breach could have caused a disaster. Students could have been stalked, had their identities stolen, their lockers opened and who knows what else. I found a serious problem, and tried to help fix it. For that I was expelled.”
Morgan Crockett, director of internal affairs and advocacy for the Dawson Student Union said:"Dawson has betrayed a brilliant student to protect Skytech management,” Ms Crockett also added: "It’s a travesty that Ahmad’s academic future has been compromised just so that Dawson and Skytech could save face. If they had any sense of decency, they would reinstate Ahmad into [the] computer science [program], refund the financial aid debt he has incurred as a result of his expulsion and offer him a full public apology "

Indonesian hacker going by the name of Hmei7 published a document on pastebin,exposing @TheLulzSecPress, by stating they they have been stealing others hack.The document has been well organised,giving an introduction section followed by 'Hacking Incidents' analysis,where comparison was made between original hacks of some genuine hackers and the stolen hacks by thelulzsecpress.A total of 5 issues were compared which hmei7 has been naming as 'FAIL NO. #'. He also thanked @ThisIsGame0ver for providing him information about many stuff.In the same document,he added a series of screenshot of conversations where the admin of the account was discussing about the name so that they could get famous by using the 'lulzsec'.
When visiting the twitter account,we can clearly see that Hmei7 owned it as he uploaded a picture stating 'HACKED BY HMEI7!'.

Anonymous: #OpAngel Phase II

After launching the #OpAngel some days back,Anonymous hackers have released another video on YouTube to announce the phase 2 of the operation. This operation has been launched after the death of Aaron Swartz.

" Operation Angel, began by Anonymous in response to the death of Aaron Swartz, successfully accomplished phase one of it's mission by preventing Westboro Baptist Church members from picketing Swartz's funeral. Anonymous is now preparing for a longer and more extensive battle within the U.S. legal system.

Aaron Swartz was essential to the progression of the Internet. He was renowned for his role in the development of RSS, Open Library and the creation of Reddit. Instead of capitalizing on his talents solely for personal gain, Aaron chose to dedicate his life to the defense of internet freedom and the preservation of civil liberties. At a time when America's educational system is ranked 17th in the world, he believed that knowledge should be made freely available to all who seek it. Before taking his own life, Aaron was facing up to 35 years in prison for acting on this belief.

The charges against Swartz are only one example of malicious prosecution by U.S. Attorney's in a history of unequaled viciousness against those accused of cyber crimes. It is clear that the punishment Swartz faced was not proportional to the crimes of which he was accused. We cannot pretend that our system is just when perpetrators of violence are dealt lighter sentences than those whose alleged crimes are essentially victimless. It is our conclusion that dubious laws such as the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act serve only to provide prosecutors with the means to selectively target and unfairly punish online activists. Anonymous intends to continue Operation Angel with the goal of reforming these laws.

There are several actions planned to raise awareness of this issue and they are listed below:

1) Within the next week we will publicly endorse specific changes to the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. While the introduction of Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren's "Aaron's Law" is a step in the right direction, it may not go far enough.

2) Several online demonstrations will take place throughout the week leading up to the live protests. Multiple Anonymous groups have promised to down or deface officials website belonging to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Department of Justice, specifically the official websites of prosecutors in Aaron Swartz case.

3) On January 25th the voice of our grievances will transcend the world wide web and be present in the streets of D.C. and Boston. Anonymous protests will take place in D.C. at 600 Pennsylvania Ave (and Constitution Ave.) at 3pm EST. A simultaneous protest will take place at the John Joseph Moakley Courthouse in Boston located at 1 Courthouse Way. Congresswoman Lofgren is encouraged to attend the D.C. demonstration and we will provide her a platform to discuss Aaron's Law."

A hacker going by the name of 'ulow' has been defacing several Australian websites running on wordpress 3.4.2,which is an old version and exploitable.This was possible as all these websites were hosted on the same server.
All the websites defaced by the hacker has been added on zone-h archive.Nothing much was written on the websites except 'HACKED BY ULOW'.By the time of publishing,many of these websites were still defaced.

80+ Indian Websites Defaced By Pakistani Hacker

Pakistani hacker going by the name of H4$N4!N H4XOR and who is a member of the Pakistani hacker group P4K!$T4N H4XOR$ CR3W has defaced more than 80 Indian websites.He listed all the defaced websites in a pastebin document.The hacker uploaded the same defaced page on all the websites and also added their Facebook fan page widget so that the administrators of each websites can contact them.By the time of publishing,most of the websites were already restored.

Through a pastebin document,hacker going by the name of D35M0ND142 has leaked the database of Gordan McKay and Blue Hill Library website.He did not mentioned about the vulnerability but started the leaked document by stating, 'I've obscured passwords to prevent damage from others.'

Published on the 13th of January 2013,hacktivist group Anonymous has launched an operation which they called "#OpAngel".This operation has started after the death of Aaron Swartz who committed suicide.Below is the video posted on YouTube and the transcript.

Thai Police Arrest US Wanted Algerian Hacker

Hamza Bendelladj,a 24 year old Algerian was arrested on Sunday while he was transitting through Bangkok from Malaysia.Hamza who is a graduate in computer science is said to be responsible for hacking 217 banks and financial companies private accounts worldwide.Hamza will be extradited to the US where a court order has been issued for his arrest.

Nigerian Cyber Army Squad. 22 member going by the name of Netlover has defaced four high profile websites.These websites are: Former Governor of Ogun State,Miami Observatory On Communication and Creation Industries, Nigerian Institute Of Social And Economic Research and Little Sister Of St.Joseph Africa.By the time of publishing,all the websites were still defaced.

62 Websites Defaced By Mr. Domoz

A hacker going by the name of Mr. Domoz has defaced a total of 62 websites for celebrating the arrival of 2013.In a pastebin document published on the 2nd of January 2013, all the defaced websites were listed along with mirrors. The websites were categorised according to their country,that is, Uganda and Australia.By the time of publishing,most of the websites were restored and the pastebin document had a hits of 33.

Yemen Customs Authority User Credentials Leaked

After leaking the credential of Bangladeshi National University some days back,the hacker going by the name JokerCracker has now leaked those of Yemen Customs Authority through a pastebin document.Again,just like the last leak by the hacker,he mentioned in the document that this was done as a personal challenge.The leaked document consists of encrypted passwords,usernames,email and userip.
